Ladies Golf at Manchester
Golf Club is both competitive and fun. There is a vibrant
Ladies Section at the Club that organises a range of competitions
and events throughout the season to cater for everyone's
needs from raw beginner to very competitive.
Tuesday is Ladies Day at the
Club when ladies have their own specified tee off times
and they are also given priority on the Course. There are
also competitions at the weekend to cater for lady golfers
who work during the week.
Group Ladies Coaching is offered
twice a week by House of Golf professionals and help and
advice is always available to ladies who are looking to
'get into golf.'
The Ladies Section headed
by the Lady Captain has a real commitment to helping a range
of charities and to this end they organise events and take
part in local events to raise funds. The emphasis is always
on fun!
The Club has 5 ladies teams
playing in National and County events as well as a mixed
team playing in a Manchester based event. It is therefore
no coincidence that Manchester Golf Club has amongst its
membership some of the best golfers in the County at both
a junior, adult and senior level.
We have a history of supporting
players of outstanding ability, the Ladies Scratch Teams
are consistently in the running for major trophies in the
County and a number of 'Manchester girls' have gone on to
represent the Club at county and international level and
on Tour.
Junior girls are made very
welcome at the Club and they are encouraged by all to become
the best that they can be and to enjoy their golf for what
it is - a great opportunity to meet new friends, to take
exercise and to compete should they wish to do so.
Junior Girls start out at
the Club from as young as 5 years, having lessons with one
of the House of Golf professionals. At 8 years of age they
can become Junior Associate Members of the Club and take
part in mini competitions that are appropriate to their
age. At 11 years they can become Junior Members and take
part in Junior Competitions and then at a later date become
Junior Lady Members.
Youngsters are helped and
encouraged by the lady members and mentored by Junior Organiser
Karen Clayton who is a Level 1 coach and county player.
Whilst Manchester could be
described as being a very traditional club we are keen to
keep up with the changing status of golf in the modern era.
Outside of competition times there are no restrictions on
members access to the course.
We look forward to welcoming
new junior and lady golfers to Manchester Golf Club in the
future. Back to the top

The Men's Section at Manchester
Golf Club provides a great opportunity for members in each
category to play competitive golf on a regular basis. Major
club competitions are held on a Saturday but there are also
Midweek Competitions held on a Wednesday and monthly Sunday
Stablefords so that 5, 6 and 7 day members all have the
opportunity to play some competitive golf.
The Club's twenty or so major
competitions for men are always keenly contested and finals
have seen some great golfing drama over the years.
Weather permitting, competition
golf is played all year round and during the winter months
there is a Winter League and midweek competitions for those
who like to play golf all year round.
Hopwood is a popular venue
on the North West Open Event circuit. The Hulbert
Trophy 36 Hole Scratch Event is played annually as part
of the Northern Order of Merit attracting some of the top
players from all over the North of England.
The Club was very proud to
host the Lancashire Amateur Championship in 2012 and are
delighted to announce that in 2013 the Northern Counties
Championship will take place on the Hopwood course. Major
events including the Hulbert Trophy are contested over the
club's Blue Course which measures out at some 6,650 yards.
PGA European Tour Qualifiers
and Player's Tour events have all been contested at Manchester
Golf Club. Is it any wonder then that the Men's Section
has produced so many fine players over the years who have
gone on to win major trophies and to represent the Club
at County and International level and on Tour?
The Manchester Golf Club Scratch
Team plays annually in the Dunham Forest Team Event and
they are currently holders of this prestigious trophy.
Manchester Golf Club members
believe in investing in the future of the club. As a result
the Junior Section offers free golf lessons to junior members
to help them to develop their game. Junior boys/young adults
are given every opportunity to reach their full potential
and there is an excellent mentor scheme in place to help
and advise juniors on every aspect of becoming a member
of a golf club.

of the Club is a very proactive and busy category of membership.
The Section is open to all male Members aged 55 years and
over who wish to participate.
The Seniors Section
runs its own knockout competitions and frequent challenge
matches against other local clubs on a reciprocal courtesy
basis.
