All golf courses close
The health of wellbeing of our members, staff and associates is of paramount importance to The Manchester Golf Club. So too your continued enjoyment of the game and our course where possible.
Current Government guidance requires that:
- people stay at home, except for very limited purposes
- non-essential shops and community spaces close
- all gatherings of more than two people in public to be stopped
In light of these new guidelines the course, clubhouse, Pro Shop and House of Golf are closed until further notice. We continue to carefully monitor all guidance and keep members, visitors and guests informed of developments. Please be assured that we are keen to return to our club and game as soon as it is safe to do so.
The Manchester Golf Club entered the COVID-19 crisis as one of the most admired golf clubs in the region. Our success is due to members, staff, visitors, associates and suppliers – many of whom straddle more than one of these categories. Unlike companies who chase profit for shareholders, we exist for the benefit and enjoyment of our members – with an obligation to do the best for present and future generations.
Our plan is to develop our facilities and reputation further to become recognised as one of the best nationally. This will require a collective effort to which we all contribute through our fees, time and/or discretionary support – as summarised in our Members Update below:
On 28 March 2020, we asked Members to help us through troubled times during the COVID-19 crisis, just as previous generations of members helped get us to where we are. The response has been fantastic, a great reflection on the spirit of members of all categories, with pledges from the men’s, ladies and junior sections across all member categories from full to access. The comments received to date are available via the link below, unedited and in full. Thanks to our members for each and every contribution.
England Golf Guidance
The Manchester Golf Club is following guidance from the Government and ruling bodies in the interest of all. We understand that all courses are advised to follow the same guidance which is summarised by the following statement from England Golf:
“Following on from the Prime Minister’s statement tonight (23 March), golf clubs and golf courses in England must now close. It is England Golf’s position that this deeply regrettable, but highly necessary and responsible course of action must be implemented with immediate effect and be maintained until further notice. The government has identified an urgent need to introduce new restrictions on public life and on non-essential businesses opening their doors. This has been done to limit the spread of the coronavirus and relieve the growing pressure on our National Health Service. Keeping golf courses open is simply no longer compatible with the updated policy of government which is designed to save lives in a time of national emergency. The health and wellbeing of the nation is the only consideration that matters at this moment in our history.”
