The Manchester Golf Club is an extremely popular destination for open golf events – attracting well over 1,000 participants each year. A full calendar of events can be booked online, although it is best to act early as tee-times are usually in high demand. Each event combines competitive golf with a great day out on an England Golf Championship Venue. We aim to provide a warm Manchester Welcome along with the opportunity to play a course ranked highly by Golf Monthly, Golf World, National Club Golfer and many more. We also host, in conjunction with Ormskirk GC, a World Amateur Golf Ranking Event for elite golfers, The Hopwood & Lathom Classic.
We host a number of Open Golf Competitions throughout the year for golfers of all categories. These are in addition to our well-known Festival week of competitions. Simply select your event of choice and see available tee-times online. One of the highlights of the calendar is the 36 hole scratch event – The Hulbert Trophy – an World Amateur Golf Ranking Event. However, all golfers with a WHI have the opportunity to enter our open events.
Entrants have the opportunity to win great prizes in each competition, as long as they are members of a physical golf club and have submitted 5 WHI competition cards in the previous 12 months. Entries to Open Competitions are welcomed from golfers with fewer qualifying cards although they will not be awarded a prize.
A well-established event for the best amateurs in the region, The Hulbert is a 36-hole Scratch Medal Event. This year, the Event is held in conjunction with Ormskirk Golf Club, creating a World Amateur Golf Ranking competition. Open to full members of recognised golf clubs aged 18 and over with a maximum world handicap index of 4.5. Applications for entry should be made before the closing date in early June, with a ballot by handicap if oversubscribed. Use the link below to discover more and register.
During Festival Week we showcase the club and course at its glorious best. Guests travel from all over the region to play in this annual cluster of events – many will be returning in 2026 having taken part in Festival Week for a number of years. PLEASE NOTE: Entry fees will not be refunded unless notice of withdrawal is received by the Manager 7 Days prior to any open event. The Club reserves the right to refuse any entry without giving a reason.
