The Manchester Open
The first event in this year’s PGA England & Wales (Northern) Region Order of Merit took place at Hopwood last week in challenging conditions.
The event was won by Haydn McCullen from Ashton on Mersey with superb scores of 67 and 69, his eight under par total earning the top prize of £2,500. A second round 69 was paired with 67 from day one, for a three shot victory over Timothy Dykes from Penrith. Just 5 other PGA Professionals from a field of 85 finished under par after two days – with particularly challenging playing conditions on the Friday. Thirty players made the Manchester Open cut on day one, which fell at two-over par. Jamie Howarth and Grant Hamerton were in the running for the prestigious Manchester Open title but fell away on the back nine to finish in third and fourth place respectively. Philip Archer’s one under par back nine secured the remaining top 5 slot in the field.
